The Closer at Marine Park hosted by Paddleball United delivered surprises—and rain forced play to stop with three crucial matches still hanging in the balance!
The format creates an intriguing challenge: a Men’s A player paired with a woman against another mixed team or two strong Men’s B players. Could the top mixed teams hold off the talented B partnerships?
Several strong mixed teams surprisingly fell:
• Alex & Janelle lost to Tri & Julian, 21–17.
• Paul & Melanie lost to Marlon & Jasón, 21–13.
• Chris & Karen lost to Joe & Nino, 21–18.
Those results show just how dangerous a good Men’s B team can be!
🔥 THE RACE TO THE SEMIFINALS
Dave & Arielle lead Tri & Julian 18–16 in their unfinished quarterfinal. Just two points separate them, and a semifinal berth remains up for grabs!
Meanwhile, Marlon & Jasón and Richie & KI are locked at 18–18 in their quarterfinal. Neither team has breathing room! Whoever survives will face the winner of Dave & Arielle versus Tri & Julian.
🔥 ONE STEP FROM THE FINAL
Gregg & Erika defeated Joe & Nino 21–17 to reach the semifinals, then built a 13–4 lead over Julio & Juju before play stopped. They are in a strong position—but still have to finish the job!
Mixed doubles favorites Gregg & Erika and Dave & Arielle remain in contention. Could we see them meet in the final?
That showdown is still possible—but the Men’s B teams have already shown they can spoil anyone’s plans!

🔥Immediately following the conclussion of The Closer, a different Team Paddleball concept takes center stage! Paul Angel will select captains, who will use a snake draft to build balanced teams from all available male and female players who register.
This format emphasizes team strategy, camaraderie, and chemistry. You don’t need to be a highly skilled player to contribute! The goal is to welcome more players into tournament competition, where players of different skill levels can feel comfortable, valued, and work together as part of a team.

A top-level Racquetball player making the transition to Paddleball, Chanis brings a wealth of racquet-sport experience to the game. Her ability to generate tremendous power, particularly on her forehand, has quickly set her apart.
In all my years of playing Paddleball (Mike Melendez), I have never seen a forehand quite like hers in the women’s division.
Chanis clearly enjoys the sport and competes with a fearless, aggressive style. As she continues to develop her understanding of the rules, court positioning, and strategic nuances of Paddleball, her potential is exciting to watch.
With her determination, athletic ability, and drive to become one of the elite female players in the game, Chanis is rapidly developing into a formidable competitor across the women’s divisions.
